Workday--LDS Charities in Morocco

In Casablanca we occasionally visit some women's centers where we have friends and partners.  The young teacher here is the 16 year old daughter of Jahlil who is the Interweave trainer LDS Charities has partnered with in the past to teach entrepreneurial skills all over Morocco.  Summer school.

Three months after the kick-off it was time to return to Beni Millal for the awarding of the diplomas!  It was a festive affair with dignitaries, singing, "cat calls" (you make a sound with your throat, sort of like an Indian war whoop!), pastries and mint tea, and an over amount of photo opping.  Sophia in the pink has become a friend.  The great soul next to her is hopefully working on involving us in a cancer clinic for women.

I selfishly am posting many pictures because someday I will be able to look at these and relive all the good feelings.  Language interchange is minimal, but we seem to communicate just fine.

I think this TV is part of what we funded.  We also posed near a truck carrying desks, chairs, and tables.  The lines blurr a bit over what we provide and what someone else kicks in for.

We also spent a few days on the road with our CMEPS partners which is also part of the work we do--forging relationships.

Beautiful Naj Out

The Moroccan waterman!

Frisky monkeys at Cascade d'Ouzoud

For me the highlight of what we do is epitomized by what happened in Ait Abbas--a teeny hamlet way up in the Atlas Mountains a few hours by car out of Marrakech.

The CMEPS school here is in its beginning stages, so you have to go in with a lot of imagination.

Picture this full of little tables and chairs and hundreds and hundreds of beautiful BOOKS!!!  That is the stuff of which dreams are made...

The lunchroom kitchen--if you can call it that.

Our guests, Lynne and Debbie, brought a big bag of dollar store toys and trinkets.  No kids were in sight--summer--but they will have a good surprise awaiting them in the fall.

I cannot imagine the glorious high that will come from watching this project take shape!!!!

And some completely unrelated pictures of Chinese tourists I saw in our hotel in Marrakech.  Couldn't resist their shirts.

Can’t even express my emotions at reliving moments from that road trip, especially the graduation day. I needed this post on so many levels today and am so grateful for every part of my Moroccan experience. Have heard from Sophia, Hicham, and Abdul in the last week.

Your gifts to them cannot be measured. I think there are more trips to Morocco together in our future.
