Beloved Friend

If you haven't ever met Mary Jane, then it will do me absolutely no good to try and do justice to her in a description. Currently she is at the end of a battle with stomach cancer and in a coma. I'm not exactly sure where the real Mary Jane is in this day or two before she moves on to the next sphere. I hope she's hovering over all her favorite places and people--taking a last look around. Go in peace my glorious soulmate. I love you.

It's Random Photo Tuesday!

This may seem totally out of character for me, but in Omaha I belonged to the New Neighbors League. Picture a few dozen corporate wives who get moved around quite a bit so nobody can really have a career or really settle in. We did lots of foo foo lunches (yeah, I said you might not picture me doing this), movies, book clubs, knitting and generally delighted in gathering to Omaha bash. I actually LOVED the gals in it and still keep track of a few of them. This is a photo of me during one such gathering. Of note is that this bathroom was named "America's Bathroom of the Year" by Good Morning America in 2004, I think it was! I was granted 18 months of absolute freedom in Omaha before I started back in teaching. I was pretty much out of control most of the time.

"Come to My Garden"

My English garden is finally ready for a photo--not a close-up, Mr. DeMille, mind you. Although still a work in progress, I LOVE my new space! Paco is button-busting proud! Didn't he do a marvelous job on the fence and entry??? He's going to hang my Brookstone swinging chair when he gets the posts in for the mount and put in a gate as well. Anyone for tea? I'm probably the only person on planet earth who spent the 4th of July planting vegetables...Judge me not! I can put this grow box garden "to bed" under a blanket well into October. So there.
This gnome looks all cozy and sweet, but don't be deceived. He pretty much mutters subversive political ideas under his breath around the clock! I know!!! I was surprised too!
Full-service bird bathing facilities and diner! That's the growbox garden there by the birdbath.
The entryway. You can't see the huge rock we buried as you enter for a walkway. We'll also have cement steppingstones that start here and will go throughout the garden. So one can "tiptoe through the tulips"

Notice the great beyond. I've committed to keeping my garden weed-free to within a 5 foot border around the garden. Beyond that I take no responsibility!

Thank heavens for a well-behaved gate-guarding-luck-bringing-sincere-smiling gnome! Doesn't he look like a "Mort"?
If you look really closely you can see tiny little llama dungs fertilizing away in my growbox.
.
From the Stuart's llama website (they seem to know their llama dung!)
"Our biggest client and neighbor The Chile Man uses Llama Manure as an chemical free organic fertilizer for several years. Fresh version looks like deer or elk pellets, llama owners call then "beans" and commit to a communal dung pile. Ideally the beans should be run through the pasture vacuum (leaf vacuum) to be mulched by the blades or allowed time to brake down and soften. Works great mixed with equine and or bovine fertilizer, rotter-tilled into your garden soil late fall and plant seeds come spring. Used as the sole source of fertilizer it will concentrate on the green plants. Ask us about bean tea for house plants. Llama "Beans" in Your Garden and posable another use Llama Dung May Be Used to Clean Bolivia Water Supply and Manure Converted to a Variety of Products."
Now that is ONE badly edited paragraph! Posable? Brake down? Rotter-tilled? Llama dung as a filter for Bolivian water??? I just know my grandkids are going to think these are jelly beans!!! Yowee! Incidentally Daisy Eagan got a Tony for her portrayal of Mary Lennox in The Secret Garden!! Ahhhhh...Mandy Patinkin...
